Round of 16 results from 2017 IRT Atlanta Open

Kane Waselenchuk, the #1 player on the International Racquetball Tour (IRT), left no doubt as to who was the better Canadian Friday, when he faced fellow Canuck Tim Landeryou in the Round of 16 at the Atlanta Pro-Am in Lilburn, Georgia, as Waselenchuk won 11-0, 11-0, 11-0.

Next up for Waselenchuk will be a quarterfinal match against 8th seed Mario Mercado, who defeated another Canadian Samuel Murray, 11-2, 11-1, 11-13, 9-11, 11-2, in the 16s.

There were two upsets in the Round of 16 with Jake Bredenbeck's win over IRT #3 Daniel De La Rosa, 6-11, 11-7, 11-9, 11-2, being the biggest one. That win is more impressive given Bredenbeck started the day with one of the longest matches in IRT history, winning a five game match over Adam Manilla, 11-9, 17-15, 8-11, 7-11, 11-9. Manilla's 55 points in the loss is the 2nd most in IRT history.

Bredenbeck plays Sebastian Franco in the quarterfinals, as Franco beat Austin Cunningham, 11-0, 11-1, 11-2, in the Round of 16.

Felipe Camacho caused the other upset in the 16s, as he defeated 7th seed Jansen Allen, 7-11, 11-8, 9-11, 11-8, 12-10. Camacho will face IRT #2 Rocky Carson in the quarters. Carson beat Thomas Carter, 11-6, 11-2, 11-3, in the 16s.

They are also playing doubles in Atlanta, and there were no upsets in the quarterfinals on Friday. Indeed, only one match was close, and that one went to a tie-breaker, as 2nd seeds Bredenbeck - perhaps a bit tired from his singles matches - and Jose Diaz needed three games to defeat Andres Acuña and Thomas Carter, 7-15, 15-6, 11-2.

The quarterfinals begin Saturday morning at 9 AM, and you can watch them via the IRT Network. The singles semi-finals are Saturday at 4 and 5 PM with the doubles semis at 6 and 7 PM. The singles final is Sunday at 10 AM followed by the doubles final at 11 AM. All times Eastern.
