Diaz, Ganim & Herrera, Landeryou & Majxner win on the weekend

Jose Diaz won Men’s Open at the 38th Annual Lewis Pro-Am in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on the weekend. He needed three tie-breakers to do it though. In the final, Diaz beat Mario Mercado, 15-9, 14-15, 11-5, but his closest match was in the semi-finals, as Diaz squeaked by Jake Bredenbeck by the narrowest of margins, 15-14, 14-15, 11-10. That was a replay of the last year’s Pan American Championships gold medal match, which Diaz also won. In Sioux Falls, Diaz also went breaker with Robert Collins, winning 15-13, 1-15, 11-2.

Mercado also went breaker in his semi-final, as he defeated Sebastian Franco, 15-1, 7-15, 11-4.

The Men’s Open Doubles title went to Alejandro Herrera and Doug Ganim, who beat Tanner Gross and Lee Meinerz in the final, 15-13, 15-7. Herrera and Ganim beat Jordan Barth and Justus Benson in one semi-final, 9-15, 15-5, 11-8, with Gross and Meinerz defeating Brian Pearson and Dan Salamone in the other, 15-11, 15-6.

Also of note, the Men’s 30+ Doubles title went to Tim Landeryou and Matthew Majxner who narrowly beat Ganim and Jason Mannino, 15-14, 15-14. In the semis, Landeryou and Majxner beat Travis Mettenbrink and Troy Vanbemmelen, 15-7, 15-11, while Ganim and Mannino defeated Herrera and Jeremy Best, 15-12, 15-14.
