WRT 2015 Juarez Open - Preview

The World Racquetball Tour (WRT) is back in action this weekend with the Juarez Open in Juarez, Mexico, where 45 players are in the draw. That’s a great turnout, although they had 54 players last year for this event.

The Juarez Open is benefiting from the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto next month, as several players who will be in Toronto are in this weekend as a tune up for Pan Ams. That includes Mexican team members Alvaro Beltran and Javier Moreno, who have ridiculous seedings based their WRT rankings, which is not high for Moreno, who has played some WRT events, and zero for Beltran, who hasn’t played a WRT event previously.

Beltran and Moreno are playing singles and doubles. Beltran’s seeded 38th in singles with Moreno 12th and together they are seeded 12th in doubles, although we’d put them as the favourites to win the doubles event.

Also in Juarez, are US Pan Am Games Team member Jake Bredenbeck, who’s just playing singles and is the 2nd seed, as well as Costa Ricans Felipe Camacho and Teobaldo Fumero and Colombians Sebastian Franco and Alejandro Herrera, who are the reigning World Champions in doubles.

The singles Round of 64 will be on Thursday with the Rounds of 32 and 16 will be played Friday with the quarterfinals and semi-finals on Saturday and the final on Sunday. The doubles Round of 16 will be Thursday (there is one play in match that will also be on Thursday) with the quarterfinals on Friday, semi-finals Saturday and final on Sunday.
