IRT - 2013 USAR Ektelon Nationals Round of 16

Kane Waselenchuk reached the quarter-finals of the USA Racquetball (USAR) Ektelon Nationals in Fullerton, California - the last event of the International Racquetball Tour (IRT) season - with a comfortable win over Alejandro Landa, 11-5, 11-6, 11-0. He'll face Javier Moreno in the quarters, as Moreno was a winner against Shane Vanderson by injury default.

Daniel De La Rosa continues to do well as he upset the 7th seed Tony Carson in three games, 11-3, 11-5, 13-11. He'll play another Carson in the quarters, as IRT #2 Rocky Carson won his match against Brad Schopieray.

The anticipated match between Chris Crowther and Polo Gutierrez wasn't as special as we thought it might be, as Crowther won in three straight games, 11-5, 11-8, 11-2, against Gutierrez, who upset him at this tournament last year.

The biggest surprise in the quarters is Fernando Rios, who defeated Japanese veteran Hiroshi Shimizu in the Round of 16, 11-4, 11-8, 11-9, to set up a quarter final match with Ben Croft, who was a straight game winner over Andy Hawthorne, 11-5, 11-2, 11-3. Rios was the silver medalist at last year's Pan American Championships, but he'll need to have a gold medal performance on Friday if he's going to beat Croft.

The IRT Network will web-cast all of the quarter final matches from Fullerton beginning Friday at 11 AM Pacific time.
